Meet the Founder
Born and raised in Barbados, Ian is a Bajan through and through, with a deep love for sports, the outdoors, and life on the water.
After years of working in the tourism industry to create memorable experiences for guests on luxury cruises. The idea for Island Canopies was sparked by his sister’s wedding. Ian heard her concerns about finding a tent that matched her aesthetic. There was a clear gap in the market for a more luxurious experience for outdoor events.
Building upon his business degree from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill, Barbados with an MBA from Hult International Business School in London, Ian began developing a business plan focused on serving destination brides and event planners who value elevated structures that seamlessly balance function, form and atmosphere. Sperry Tents’ arrival to Barbados, exclusively at Island Canopies, redefines what outdoor celebrations can look like.
